KK – Profile

Kiran Kanwar has been a golf instructor since 1989, after having won the 1983 National Championship – the All India Ladies’ Open Amateur Golf Championship. She has also been winner of the Maharashtra Open, the Bombay Ladies’ Open Week Championship and several Club competitions at all 3 of Mumbai’s golf clubs.

She was, in 1989, and for 10 years thereafter, India’s first and only, woman golf teaching professional, and has added to her lists of ‘firsts’ in the years since.

She is the only person, worldwide, to have conducted the particular aspect of golf swing anatomy-cum-biomechanics research which she has, and is the only person, ever, to have developed a research-based, biomechanically valid golf swing, which has been reverse-engineered form the requirements of club-ball contact – The Minimalist Golf Swing (MGS).

[The MGS method is based on over 17 years of research, and an application of all basic anatomical and biomechanics’ principles. It is completely causality-driven (ie every non-perfect shot has very specific causes), and results in instantly better distance, direction and trajectory for every skill-level of golfer, while simultaneously reducing the chance for injury.]

Kiran was the only woman and only Indian to be a speaker at the PGA of Asia’s first and second Golf Teaching Conferences in 2010 and 2011. The topics were, ‘Bringing Science to the Golf swing’ and ‘Human Anatomy in the Golf Swing’. She has conducted workshops on Golf Swing Biomechanics for The PGA of America’s Gateway section and LPGA Mid-West section teaching professionals; for some of the Indian Tour (PGTI) players; and for students of the Masters’ Degree program in Sports Science and Rehabilitation, at Logan College of Chiropractic.

She offers golf instruction at various locations in both St Louis, MO, USA, and in Mumbai, India and has worked with long-drivers, professional golfers, men, women and juniors in both the USA and India.

Kiran Kanwar has four Class A teaching credentials – the LPGA, The PGA (UK), the NGAI (also Teaching Staff and Editor of the Indian National Teaching Manual) and PGA of India (also Board Member). She has an undergraduate degree in physics, is currently in a Masters’ Program in Sports Science and Rehabilitation, and has is an American College of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer. She also has over 25 years of golf journalism experience, is a columnist for Golf Digest India, and a member of the Golf Writers’ Association of America.
